Coaching methods

I like to use power & HR in training specifications. With initial athlete testing via Wattbike or KickR/Neo to develop a power profile.   I prefer to use Training Peaks for program specification, but can also use "Today's Plan" or other platforms. But I am also happy to coach riders on a lower tech basis using Word/Excel/Google sheets. I am used to coaching at a distance, but it is essential to have some face-to-face initially and intermittently, but this can be via Zoom/MSTeams etc.

I am also a Trustee for Bikeability Trust which oversees the DfT program of cycle training for young riders: https://bikeability.org.uk/

My shortcomings

Probably just as important as the stuff above:

  • I know nothing about BMX, MTB or XC and although I like racing Cyclocross I wouldn't claim my meagre skills qualify me for coaching CX either.
  • My past focus has been on youth riders and/or female riders, but I am much less familiar with the National/Elite Male RR scene and as I like to feel  I am giving riders the best advice I normally decline requests to coach Senior Male riders.
