With the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in touching distance, this year’s Go-Ride Conferences will bring together the active volunteers of the Go-Ride programme to address how clubs and riders can best utilise the positive effects of London 2012.

The Go-Ride Conferences are an opportunity for all Go-Ride Club and School volunteers to come together to share and collect useful information on such areas as training, funding, membership, new Go-Ride programmes and much more. It is also your chance to comment on how we can improve or what other support you might want for your club’s needs.

Through a combination of practical advice and support, the emphasis for this year’s Go-Ride Conference season is on ‘Gearing up for the Games’ to ensure that our schools and clubs are in the best possible position to cater for the increased enthusiasm created by the Games.

Held in six superb venues throughout the country in March, the Conferences are split in to three optional areas to attend:

Workshop 1:
The Young Volunteer Journey

For both new and current young volunteers, the options in this area will include a chance to complete the CAYV and new Racemakers courses to broaden knowledge of volunteering roles within cycle sport.

There will also be the opportunity to assist in the development of the next stage of the CAYV programme following gold level achievement including the concept of youth representatives and youth forums as well as a discussion on the role young people can play in supporting the Go-Ride Games.

Workshop 2:
The Rider Journey (Coaches)

Interactive sessions will be delivered by British Cycling and guest volunteer coaches, exploring the rider journey from playground to podium. Coaches will look at the role of the Community Club Coach and how they can work with British Cycling Go-Ride and Talent Team Coaches to enable young Bike Racers to reach their personal best.

Current coaches and those considering coaching young people for the first time should sign up to this workshop where they can expect the usual top tips on delivery, along with the most up to date coaching advice and information available.

Workshop 3:
The Club Journey

This session will bring all your club and school volunteers together to discuss potential new ways to attract young people into cycling through the Go-Ride Games following the Olympics in August. The workshop will focus on utilising the entire volunteer team to deliver an exciting and progressive experience for young riders.

This will be a key opportunity to contribute to the workings of a national programme, engaging clubs and schools together directly with the Olympics. This workshop is for Club Volunteers, for example Go-Ride Contacts, Welfare Officers, Volunteer Co-ordinators and Event Organisers.
