Hi, I'm Rich Smith and I currently coach the Great Britain Transplant Cycling team. in 2013 they became the most successful British cycling team ever to compete at the World Transplant Games winning 19 medals (including 9 golds).

Most riders look to employ a Level 3 coach because they want detail on ‘how far, how hard and how often’ they should ride. This is the purely physiological side of training and forms the core of the training prescription. It is delivered by a weekly plan and requires significant feedback, and therefore commitment, from the rider. However, coaching can and should include the tactical, technical and psychological elements needed to make you a better rider. By all means, ask me to make you quicker - but expect some questions to find out how fast you are at the moment, how fast you want to be, when, where, how often, over what distance, on what equipment etc. We'll need to develop some SMART goals together and have a really good idea of what success will look like for you.

I use Training Peak software in connection with my coaching and, normally, my riders will use heart rate monitoring and/or power in their training.

A couple of (the more repeatable) things some of my riders have said....

'With a structured approach to my training and on hand advice; I’ve managed to improve on my 16 year old Personal Best for a 10, with more still to come. I’ve gone from doing mid 23 minute 10 mile time trials last year to doing mid 21 minute this year and have now set a brand new benchmark of 20.21'.Rich has understood that real life sometimes gets in the way, and we’re not professional athletes with unlimited time. He has been able to adapt my training (sometimes at extremely short notice) to fit around my work and family commitments. I'm looking forward to more improvements during the rest of this season...'  And....

'Rich is the coach of our GB transplant cycling team . He has helped me immensely with coaching plans and training schedules in order to help me progress with my cycling on the road and on the track. Since coaching me I have become British and World champion transplant cycling champion. Last year I competed in two national women's omnium events on the track as well as time trials and track league. Cheers Coach for all of your help!'

In addition to my responsibilities with the GBTx team, I take on a handful of riders who I feel can I really work with. I charge a one off £100 fee to go through rider profiling, goal setting and annual planning and £120 per month for a weekly training prescription.
