About our club
Abergavenny Road Club was formed in 1979 for a group of 12 cyclists who had no club of their own. We now have 383 members and warmly welcome cyclists of all disciplines, abilities and ages. We were crowned Welsh Cycling's Club of the Year 2013, 2014 and 2015 and hosted the 2015 National Cyclo-cross Championships, which was named 2015 USN Welsh Cycling Event of the Year. For the past two years we have hosted Crosstober, the biggest cyclo-cross event in Britain.
As one of the foremost cycle clubs in Wales offer road races, Cyclo-cross and MTB events, social rides, Audaxes, chain gangs and discipline specific training and rides;
Many of our riders enjoy competing in events on the International stage, Nationally and locally and have been selected for Wales and GB Development Squads. We were finalists in the Womens' Sports Trust #BeAGameChanger Awards 2016, for our inclusion of female cyclists.
We are a British Cycling "Go Ride" Accredited and Insport Disability Accredited Club with Youth Section sessions, each Saturday (in line with school terms) regularly attracting 70+ young riders. We have 12 British Cycling qualified coaches and a host of volunteers: Coach Steve Lane won Welsh Cycling Coach of the Year in 2013 and Coach Paul Crapper won Welsh Sport Coach of the Year in 2016.
