About our club

Abergavenny Road Club was formed in 1979 for a group of 12 cyclists who had no club of their own.

We offer road races, Cyclo-cross and MTB events, social rides, Audaxes, chain gangs and discipline specific training and rides; Many of our riders enjoy competing in events on the International stage, Nationally and locally and have been selected for Wales and GB Development Squads. For the past two years we have hosted Crosstober, the biggest cyclo-cross event in Britain.

We were crowned Welsh Cycling's Club of the Year 2013, 2014 and 2015 and hosted the 2015 National Cyclo-cross Championships, which was named 2015 USN Welsh Cycling Event of the Year. We were finalists in the Womens' Sports Trust #BeAGameChanger Awards 2016, for our inclusion of female cyclists.

We are a British Cycling "Go Ride" Accredited and Insport Disability Accredited Club with Youth Section sessions, each Saturday (in line with school terms) regularly attracting 70+ young riders. We have British Cycling qualified coaches and a host of volunteers: Coach Paul Crapper won Welsh Sport Coach of the Year in 2016.

World Track Champions, Rachel James, her sister Becky (a double Olympic medal winner and 2 time Commonwealth Games rider and current British Cycling MTB Head coach, Julian Winn, Team Canada 2012 Track Coach Richard Wooles, former professional cyclist Jess Allen and British Lions and Wales Rugby star, George North are members of our club.
