COVID-19 is having a significant impact on all walks of life in 2020, the sport of cycling is no exception. Here at Welsh Cycling we are keen to keep working with volunteers to offer support and development where we can.

We would usually be looking at hosting face-to-face opportunities, which we obviously are unable to do at the moment. As such we are creating an online engagement calendar which can be seen below. We are keen to keep adding to this, so if there is something you are particularly keen to see, please get in touch with your local development officer.

The role of Physical Activity on Mental Wellbeing - Wednesday 3rd February 19:30-20:30

This online panel discussion from Scottish Cycling will focus on the role of physical activity on mental wellbeing. Evidence shows that partcipation in sport can increase self-esteem and reduce anxiety. Our panel members discuss how exercise can suport mental health during stressful times as well as the impact of high performance sport on wellbeing.

The panel discussion will be held on Zoom which will allow members of the Scottish Cycling community to tune in and submit questions to the panel members as the discussion unfolds.

We will record the session, so if you cannot make it, you will be able to watch it later.

Supporting Volunteers in your club/organisation - Wednesday 10th February 19:00

This workshop is a version which was delivered in Cardiff in March prior to lockdown and was unable to be delivered elsewhere. It is based on the Club Solutions workshop, but has been adapted to better suit online delivery.

There is an e-learning module available to support this workshop here.

We will be looking at:

  • How does your volunteer engagement fit into your clubs goals, values and beliefs?
  • What could a volunteer coordinator do for your club/organisation
  • Micro Volunteering: what is it? How is it of benefit to me?
  • Tools to help track Voluntering in your club

There is a focus here on putting a focus on your volunteers and ensuring they are able to do the role that they are recruited to do.
