England's Laura Watson is Women's World Champion, while nearly man Nowacki finally delivers

World Title for England's Laura Watson

Despite the depleted field the girls competed for the first Ladies World Title with Englands Laura Watson victorious over fellow Brits Vicky Brown and Lauren Hookway. With a strong ladies racing scene in Australia, where the next championships will be held, it is hoped that this event will expand in future.

Nowacki Takes Individual Men's World Title

Having been on the World Championship rostrum more times than any rider in history, Lukasz Nowacki of Poland finally succeeded in clinching the gold medal to become 2011 World Cycle Speedway Champion (reports Dave Murphy)

Leicester based Nowacki won the title in North Carolina after a race-off with fellow countryman and surprise contender Rafel Dulinski.

Twice World Champion Daniel Pudney, from Adelaide, defeated fellow Australian Joel Chadwick in a race-off for 3rd place in what was a closely contested final staged in the USA for the first time. Pudney will surely now want to chase a third title at Adelaide in 2013 when Nowacki will be looking to retain the crown he will cherish, after so many years of near misses.

England's World Cup heroes Andy Angell and Lee Aris, both finished on thirteen points after each had failed to score in their last ride, while in podium challenging positions. Another British contestant, Steve Harris, was unable to follow up on his World veterans victory but he still finished in a credible 6th place.

British Cycling can be proud of the efforts from all their finalists, with Paul Heard scoring 13 points to prove that he has really 'come of age' and arrived on the International scene as a major competitor. Matt Smith also rounded off his tour with a World Final debut along with another first time finalist Joe Kemp, to serve proof that the Cycle Speedway Academy is capable of producing stars for the future.

Australian Joel Chadwick Bags World Junior Title

Australia Joel Chadwick coasted to a 20 point maximum from Polands Patryk Piechota and Englands main challenger Dan Chambers. Another English youngster Aaron Morgan was 'in the mix' and would have possibly clinched a podium place but for some bad luck when he lost out to an on-track incident where the referees decision didn't go his way.

It was good to see a USA junior in the thick of the action with Cody Eaves scoring 13 hard earned points, at his home circuit, to finish 8th.

Big Success for England in Edenton - England bag Senior and Junior Team Cup and World Vets Championship - Posted: 25th April 2011

England have successfully lifted both the Senior and Junior World Team Cup Titles at the Cycle Speedway World Championships in North Carolina (reports Dave Murphy).

Following an earlier emphatic victory in the junior event it was the cross of St George that that proudly reigned on top of the rostrum in the World team Cup Final on Saturday evening at the Edenton race-way. This marked a great personal success for England Team Manager Pete Barnes (from Poole) who had seen his teams narrowly defeated in other championship events only to clinch the title that really matters - The World Team Cup.

Solid scoring across the team, with a brilliant World Cup debut from Paul Heard, enabled England to romp home by a six-point margin ahead of previous champions Australia and Poland. Lee Aris and Andy Angel showed why they must be considered among favourites for Sundays World Individual Final, while Steve Harris followed up on his World Veterans victory to score the vital points that clinched the England triumph.

A crucial period saw England gain valuable points from their set of difficult grid 3 positions while a Lukasz Nowacki exclusion was a decisive blow for the Polish teams hopes. Reigning Champions Australia dropped crucial points from the advantageous inside grids while it was the English who completed victory by taking maximum points from the final four heats.

WORLD TEAM CUP RESULT:

CHAMPIONS: England 52 Lee Aris 14 Andy Angel 13 Paul Heard 13 Steve Harris 12 - (Reserve: Dan Chambers DNR)

The Junior competition was a straight fight between England and USA with the under-18 riders showing great determination on both sides. While USA is still a developing team, the English experience at International level was evident as they raced to an emphatic victory led by a 20 point maximum for Lee Kemp.

The evergreen Harris sped to victory ahead of Australian duo of Brad Hoppo (2nd) and Paul White (3rd) in the first major individual title of the championships.

Paul White fully earned his podium position but could not improve on the third place he achieved at Adelaide in 2009 as Brad Hoppo clinched a silver medal. Scotlands Neil Toye came out of retirement to compete in this event and would have been pleased with his overall performance to finish 4th.

Aussies capture World Pairs Title - (reports Dave Murphy)

An event full of incident and exciting racing saw the Australians clinch their second World Title of the 2011 championships, following a race-off with Poland.

An early race exclusion for Australian Joel Chadwick followed by similar punishment to England's Andy Angel allowed Poland to take the lead. However a fighting comeback from the Australians brought them back into the frame, for a race-off, after 15 heats of action-packed racing.

From the favoured inside gates, it was double World Champion Daniel Pudney who took the chequered flag while Aussie partner Joel Chadwick clinched the important third place to push the Polish team into a runners-up spot. The pair were supported by reserve Cody Chadwick who weighed in with 10 points from the heats.

Australia and England closely contested the World Junior Pairs Championship at Edenton-USA with the Aussies retaining their title via a tense race-off. This after both teams finished on 35 points from the scheduled heats.

Australia had held a three point lead before an exclusion to their star rider Joel Chadwick allowed England to sneak a two point margin, with four races remaining. Then Poland's Patryk Piechota significantly held off the English pair of Aaron Morgan and Leyton Glover but was later unable to stop the Australian pair taking the crucial points which allowed them to draw level before clinching victory in the race-off.

Runners-Up: England 35 - (Dan Chambers 14, Aaron Morgan 11 plus reserve Leyton Glover 10)
