The Level 1 Mountain Bike Leadership Award is a one day course that consists of the following modules:
Introduction
An introduction to the course, the role of a Level 1 Mountain Bike Leader and the importance of creating a positive experience for riders’.
Leader Equipment
A practical module focused on leader equipment and the leader’s responsibility as a role model.
Equipment Set-up and Safety Checks
A practical guide to allocating appropriate equipment for riders, setting a general riding position and essential safety checks to be carried about before commencing a led ride.
Repairing a puncture
Practical tips and a demonstration of how to efficiently repair a puncture.
Core Techniques
An introduction to the core cycling techniques required to safely ride in the Level 1 Mountain Bike environment.
Skills Games and Exercises
A practical module that aims to provide candidates with a number of games that can be used to assess riders’ bike handling skills.
Leader Positioning
A practical guide to leader positioning in the Level 1 Mountain Bike environment.
Practical Session – The Ride
This module develops core cycling skills and leader positioning skills. Emergency Accident Procedures are also discussed within this module.
