Second Disability Workshop in London
News posted: April 2009
Sunday 26th April 2009 saw the second of the Level 2 Coaching Riders with a Disability Workshop held in sunny Shepperton, London. Level 2 coaches attended the continued professional development (CPD) workshop providing them with an opportunity to gain additional coaching skills and knowledge.
The Level 2 Coaching Riders with a Disability workshop aims to develop the knowledge and skills of existing disability coaches whilst also supporting those who wish to coach disabled riders for the first time. The workshop assists coaches with their ability to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of safe, ethical and effective coaching sessions for groups of riders with disabilities enabling them to integrate individual riders into their existing coaching sessions within Level 2 coaching environments.
The workshop consists of four interactive classroom based and one practical outdoor module, covering topics such as disability categories used within cycling and specialist equipment considerations. The modules also provide useful tips and strategies for communicating with riders and managing challenging behaviour.
The response from the coaches on the course provided us with very positive and constructive feedback on the content and delivery of the programme, as well as the quality of the supporting resources:
"The course allows lots of interactions between the tutors and the coaches"
"The practical session and the opportunities to have a go on different types of bikes was really good and really useful"
"Very good workshop"
"Very good confidence builder"
"Excellent again, well done BC"
We are currently planning more workshops throughout the UK, and more information on dates and venues will appear here soon.
