Cycling for Schools is our entry-level coach education course for school staff and volunteers, it will help you deliver cycling techniques and grassroots competition in the playground or on your school field.
Who is it for?
All adults (aged 18 and over), who work or volunteer within the schools sector. The course has been specifically designed for the school environment, ideal for any school that wants to deliver cycling activities and competitions under their own insurance.
On completion, participants will have the knowledge and skills to hold fun and engaging sessions, with a portfolio of challenging activities to help students progress.
What does the course include?
Pre-development day
- Completion of up to 18 hours of online learning and activities over two weeks (understanding what and how to coach)
Development day
- Attendance on a one day programme, from 9.00am to 3.00pm (Practical application)
- Participation as a rider (supplying your own suitable bike, helmet and clothing)
- Preparation and delivery of a short coaching session
Post-development day
- Supported delivery of cycling sessions to the students in your school
- Record delivery in your personal online blog
How much does Cycling for Schools cost?
The course cost is £120
Resources
In addition to the online learning/resources and one day practical workshop, you will receive the following to help guide your delivery:
- Access to British Cycling Level 1 Coaching Handbook via online learning.
- Access to British Cycling Gears 1 and 2 Coaching Workbook, containing a variety of coaching activities appropriate for delivery in school environments via online learning.
- Six complete session plans, designed by British Cycling's Go-Ride Coaches.
In addition, you will receive on-going support from British Cycling's coaching and education team, your local Regional Development Manager and HSBC UK Go-Ride Coach.
