About our club

Hawick Cycling Club are a charity that promotes cycling in all its forms in the southern Scottish Borders region.

We have an active racing section, with members representing the club at open events. They travel to events in North of England and throughout southern and central Scotland including events held in our Border Area. The club also promotes confined events most weeks from April to September, these are mainly Time Trials over set distances and courses.

We have a dedicated women's section with coaching sessions specifically for women members. We also have a closely associated and very successful Breeze group with the ride leaders members of the club. They host an annual women's sportive from the town.

In addition to the racing side of the club's activities, there is also a very active non/competitive leisure section. The club promotes the annual Ken Laidlaw Sportive in August. Training runs take place every Sunday throughout the year, leaving club rooms at 09.00am during the summer and at 9.30am during the winter. These runs take in many of the local roads generally within a 30-50 mile radius of Hawick. Distance varies from 35 miles in the winter to un to 100 miles in the summer.

The club helps organise the Border Trophy, a midweek time trial league held across the region and hosted by Hawick, Kelso, Berwick and Galashiels cycling clubs.

We have regular Audax events each year with rides into the north of England and to the Northumberland coast.

The club also has both men's and women's e-sport teams that compete in WTRL racing leagues on the Zwift online racing platform over the off-season period. This has been particular useful to help keep the club active during the ongoing Covid pandemic. It has also attracted past residents of the town and others to the club with interest from across the UK and Europe.
