About our club
Settle Wheelers is a friendly, sociable club with some 50 members and an active GoRide section based in Settle, North Yorkshire.
The club was officially formed in 2001, but had existed informally as a group of Sunday morning riders for several years before that.
There are club rides on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, usually around 50 to 70 kms, with the actual distance and average pace depending on the group ability and the weather. There is also a ‘Steady Group’ ride on a Saturday afternoon covering 30 to 40 kms at a 16 to 18 km/hr average pace.
On alternate Wednesday evenings during the summer months we run a 16.4 km time trial based at Bolton-by-Bowland (Course L112) and there is usually a chain gang session on a Thursday evening while there is adequate daylight.
Our Go-Ride session is on Saturday mornings at 9.30 for junior riders. These are dedicated cycle sport coaching sessions with currently up to 20 riders taking part every week. All you need is a bike, a helmet and lots of enthusiasm and energy!
We have a number of qualified, knowledgeable, trained and enthusiastic coaches that aim to help all young riders at the club and endeavour to plug young riders into the world of cycle sport and have fun doing it. Alongside the coaches sits our Welfare & Safeguarding officer, who will give parents peace of mind that the children are in a safe environment while progressing through the sport.
There is a warm weather club trip in the spring, usually to Mallorca and many members are also regular riders in the local sportives, including the Yorkshire Dales Etape and the Fred Whitton Challenge.
Please feel free to contact us about availability for the Go-Ride group, or any inquiries if you are thinking of joining our club.
