British Cycling is proud to be supporting this year’s Clean Air Day, coordinated by Global Action Plan, which will take place on Thursday 20 June.

The announcement comes on the day of this year’s first traffic-free HSBC UK Let’s Ride event in Cardiff, with representatives from Global Action Plan on-hand in the Hub area to share more information with participants on this year’s campaign.

During last year’s event in Cardiff there was an recorded compared to the previous Sunday, and tomorrow’s event will again form part of the city’s wider Car Free Day celebrations.

British Cycling Policy Manager, Nick Chamberlin, said:

“Through the hard work of people like Global Action Plan there is now a much greater awareness of the risk that poor air quality poses to all of us, and we’re delighted to be supporting this year’s campaign to help further raise awareness.

“We believe that cycling has an enormous role to play in cleaning up our air, and this year’s HSBC UK Let’s Ride events will once again demonstrate that there is a greener, healthier and brighter future ahead of us if we better equip our towns and cities for cycling.”

Chris Large, Senior Partner at Global Action Plan, said:

“I’m thrilled that British Cycling is an official supporter of Clean Air Day. The more of us spreading the word about cycling or walking instead of driving, the better for air quality and for everyone’s health. Did you know that cyclists are exposed to nine times less air pollution than drivers? What better reason to get on your bike.”

In the run-up to this year’s Clean Air Day, British Cycling will be encouraging our Ride Leaders, Breeze Champions and Ride Social groups to get behind the campaign by putting on rides in their area. You can find a free, guided ride near you today here.
