We are developing our Regional Strategy and Delivery Plan and would like your input.

Participants attending the facilitated session on 28 January will input to the South Region’s vision, objectives and priorities, and help identify what, how and when we deliver in the region across all disciplines with the aim of getting more people riding bikes more often… please bring your ideas of how the profile of cycling can be boosted in the region and what you can do to help! Read the attached document for further information.

We need your help!

We’re looking for as many people as possible with an interest in cycling in the South Region, or what we do, to come together on Monday 28th January 2019 at the Fairground Hall, Weyhill, Andover, SP11 0QN, to help us look at how we how we develop cycling in all its forms and how we get more people on bikes more often, in more and better places across our vast Region?

The purpose of the event is to test what we’ve done to date, look for gaps and new ideas and shape our planning forward. It’s also generally to ask questions of the team and each other and a chance to informally network with like-minded people and talk about bikes and biking. Coffee will be supplied all night.

Who should come?

It really is ‘anyone with an interest’ and who is completely open to ideas and new ways of working. Anyone who rides a bike, has an interest in riding a bike or helping support or enable others to, or working with those who do. You could own a bike shop or related business, run a club, work for a local authority or partner, support your kids to ride, just ride your bike – or maybe you would like to ride a bike but something’s stopping you. Maybe you don’t ride a bike at all and just have some ideas from other avenues of life! Come along and have your say and help us shape the future of cycling in our Region.

Why now?

To deliver British Cycling’s new strategic vision “Together, we are transforming Britain into a great cycling nation’; the HQ organisational structure and staffing has had a complete makeover in the last twelve months. At the heart of this is a new Regionalised Delivery Structure. We now have a team of staff in post in the South Region under a new Regional Manager who, over the last few months, has started working closely with the South Region Board and partners to start to develop a new vision, objectives, and priorities for the Region, and a Plan as to how to deliver on it. Initial ideas and themes have been teased out, but we need wider input to first test how close our current work is to being ‘right’ for the Region and start to work out how we’re going to do it. We want to start building the first Regional Delivery Plan to roll out initially and then develop from April 2019.

What’s expected / what should I bring?

Just bring your ideas of how the profile of cycling can be boosted in the region, listen to what others have to say and start to consider what you can do to help now and in future. You can bring ideas on behalf of a wider club or group, or just come as yourself. Challenge, be innovative, bring new concepts or the best of current practise and share and listen.

FAQs:

What and where’s the “South Region”?

South Region is one of 10 geographical English areas of British Cycling. It’s huge and covers from Gloucestershire in the north, encompasses Avon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and includes the Channel Islands as its most southerly points – you’ll find a map here.

How do I register my interest?

Send your name to: BCSouthSecretary@outlook.com

I can’t get to Andover on Monday night in person. How can I find out more and get involved?

Watch this space – we’ll issue a short survey in advance of the meeting to capture key points from those unable to make it and we’re looking into how we use social media and live communications on the evening itself. We’ll also provide a dedicated e-mail address.

For queries specific to particular staff or Board, you’ll find some Regional Staff and Board contacts on the this page of the British Cycling website; if it’s a coaching or clubs specific query, contact Rich or one of our coaches via the contacts currently listed here (scroll down!). If you’re not sure, send general questions to Mark Williams (Board Secretary) or Ruth Miller (Cycling Delivery Manager).

Is everything already really decided?

Absolutely not. We’ve had a stab collectively at teasing out what might be key themes and emerging priorities and had a look at some baseline information and national targets which we’ll bring to the meeting. After that, the pages are still open and looking to be filled with ideas.

What will happen after the meeting

We’ll capture sign up details in advance and on the night and contact everyone who’s expressed interest or answered a survey afterwards with next steps. We’ll also be using our new communication channels to get lots of key messages out in the coming weeks and months.
