Bournemouth BMX Club has secured a round of the 2019 HSBC UK | National BMX Series, and will welcome the country’s best riders to the sunny seaside resort on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August next year.

One of the oldest clubs in the country, Bournemouth BMX has worked hard over the last five years to bring the National Series back to Bournemouth.

The Club will host the last round of the National Series, two weeks after the World Championships in Holland and two weeks before the British Championships in Derby.

Bournemouth BMX Club’s Chairman, Michael Whittaker said: “We’re honoured to be hosting the National Series after a break of several years. Racers love our track which has something for everyone, and our plan is to deliver a fun festival feel. There’s no better place for a race in August!”

Councillor Bob Lawton, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Parks, Outdoor Sports and Recreation Services at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “Bournemouth Parks Service loves working with proactive groups like Bournemouth BMX Club in helping us to deliver amazing parks and open spaces for everyone. The work that this club has put into our community over the last 40 years is outstanding. Bournemouth BMX Club and the new Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Council hosting part of the 2019 National BMX Series at Iford is going to be fantastic and we're looking forward to welcoming everyone to this beautiful location.”

Ward Councillor and former Mayor of Bournemouth, Eddie Coope said: “Our two children used the track when they were younger and I have been helping the club for 10 years as a local councillor, so it is great that we are getting big events here which will benefit the whole area.”

British Cycling South Region Board chairman, Andy Cook said: “British Cycling’s South Region has always looked to encourage participation and accessibility at all levels and supports all initiatives, in particular those focused on younger riders, which highlight the obvious benefits that the sport of cycling has to offer. It is therefore excellent news that Bournemouth BMX Club has been selected to host a round of the 2019 National BMX Series; a huge success story for all those volunteers involved in the initial bid. Our very best wishes for a successful event.”
