Event: 2 February 2013

Enthusiastic young mountain bikers descended on Broadbent Fold Primary School for their first Go-Ride mountain bike event of the year on Saturday 2 February.

The sun shone as riders kick started the morning with a skills competition requiring excellent bike handling. In the U8 category, Mackenzie Lee of Aldwyn Primary mastered the manualling skills whilst Megan Renshaw showed great competency riding the narrow plank.

Broadbent Fold pupil Katie Croft put in an excellent performance to take the lead in the U10s category after the skills round with fellow school mate Joel Hatton clearing the course in the U12s along with Mossley CRT rider Cameron Bates. Reece Player and Karl Richter looked strong in the U14/U16 competitions with Eastland’s Velo rider Leanne Hall not far behind.

Next Riders competed in sprint dirt crits. The racing was fast and furious with riders showing great determination in all categories. Sam Rowell looked unbeatable in the U8s winning both his rounds ahead of Bolton Hotwheels rider Ethan Grimshaw. Megan Renshaw and Mckenzie Lee also backed up their confident skills performance with a win each.

The U10s category was a great example of girl power with Evie Black and Katie Croft taking first and second in each ahead of Kieren Karey Ward.

The U12s race created some of the most exciting racing with school rider Hatton and club rider Bates putting everything into their racing. Both riders had great support and the racing went down to the wire. Bates’s racing experience just helped him lunge ahead of Hatton who showed great determination throughout the morning. Sophie Howard of Mossley CRT and local pupil Lewis Rowell also gained victories.

A photo finish would have been useful during the combined U14/U16 competition when Player inched ahead of Hall on the finish line.

The finale of the morning was the longer cross-country race which included a longer course and downhill section. Rowell once again dominated the U8 category with Grimshaw and Broadbent Fold pupil Liam Doyle third.

Evie Black made it three out of three to take the win and the overall U10 category. Cameron Bates once again inched ahead of Joel Hatton in the U12s with Lewis Rowell looking strong in third. Mossley CRT rider Reece Player took victory in the U14/U16 race ahead of team mate Karl Richter.
