First Ever Mountain Bike National School of Racing!
Posted: 22nd March 2010 | Source; British Cycling Talent Team
British Cycling's Talent Team is calling all Youth/ Youth A, Juvenile/Youth B and Junior Girls for an MTB National School of Racing at Sherwood Pines.
Spring is here, the season has started, Dalby World Cup is just around the corner. The World is talking about Mountain Bike Racing. so the Talent Programme is going to put on another top coaching session at one of the country's best cycling venues, we call them National School of Racing (NSR).
The session will be Cross Country Race specific and will take place at Sherwood Pines, Clipstone near Mansfield on the 15th of May 2010. Our previous NSR sessions have been Road based on and we have had 100+ bike riders. This MTB session will be taking place in a public venue with technically demanding sessions and terrain. So we need to have an assured level of experience for riders so, as with the last couple of NSRs we have a rider criteria to make sure they are up to the session. Also, this is a Talent Program session and the Talent programme in its two tier form is in place to cater for riders in across these age categories only.
To make sure this is safe and manageable, for this NSR we are going to have a maximum of 60 subscriptions and as with other years these will be taken from email application. As soon as we have 60 suitable applications, entry will close.
Entry Requirements
With your application you must be able to prove:
- Your birth year is 1994, 1995,1996 or 1997 or you are a Junior Girl.
- You regularly race at a regional and or national level.
- You must provide evidence of participation in a Regional School of Racing, Go-Ride club or holiday scheme or BC or British Triathlon GROUP coaching sessions.
The key is in the title, this is a National School of Racing, don't expect this to be a stock coaching session on how to do "tricks and stunts", this day will be based on how to use your skills. Obviously there will be coaching on getting though technical sections, however the emphases of the coaching will be on tactical race knowledge and skills that you can use to be a more efficient racer.
This day is designed to help prepare you for your first tastes of XC races with large fields who are all technically and physically very closely matched; where tactical knowledge will make the difference between you finishing near the back of the field and going on to become our next XC medallist.
On Reading the application form, if you feel this rules you out of the NSR, we advocate that you should be looking to take part in some local club activity or Go-Ride holiday sessions and then move on to some low level regional racing. Together with our Go-Ride colleagues we can steer you in the right direction. You can find a list or your regional go-ride team here.
Applications need to be emailed to Simon Watts before Tuesday 4th May from this you will receive a parental consent form and session details. Please call on 07515 606633 if you have any questions.
If you are a coach who is actively delivering youth sessions and in reading this feel like you would like to receive the session objectives and plans please contact us and we can pass them on. The sessions will be open to coaches wishing to observe and time will be given post session to take Q and A on what we did and why.
