Great Britain’s Jonathan Dibben narrowly missed out on a medal when he finished fifth in a bunch sprint at the end of the World Junior Road Championships in Limburg, Holland. The race was won by Matej Mohoric of Slovakia from Caleb Ewan of Australia and Josip Rumac of Croatia.

The six rider GB team of Germain Burton, Jon Dibben, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Chris Lawless, Alex Peters and Will Stephenson worked well together throughout the race. Despite numerous attempts to split the field, it became increasingly clear that it would end in a bunch sprint as successive efforts were brought back.

Teo Geoghegan Hart got into a promising looking four-man move at the start of the final lap of eight, but that too was dragged back and after a rapid climb of the Cauberg ascent, a couple of kilometres from the finish, a big 56 rider bunch came into the finish to sprint for the medals.

Mohoric just edged it from Ewan, with Dibben forced to wait whilst a photo finish image was dissected before learning that he’s just missed out on a medal in fifth place.
