Chris Newton To Coach Olympic Academy Men’s Endurance Squad

Multiple World Champion and Olympic medallist, Chris Newton, has announced he is retiring from professional cycling on both the road and track and will be joining the coaching staff at the Great Britain Cycling Team, taking on the role of Olympic Academy Men’s Endurance Coach.
Winner this year of the Lincoln Grand Prix, Newton is bowing out of racing whilst on top after showing his best form for years on the road.
In a career spanning more than fifteen years of representing Great Britain, Chris has won medals at the last three Olympic Games and the last two Commonwealth Games, as well as holding the World Champion title in the Team Pursuit and the Points Race. Chris’ cycling talent also transfers to the road, where he is a star name on the domestic road race scene racing for the past three years with Rapha Condor Sharp. Chris has won the Premier Calendar series three times, including the 2010 series and will continue to race for the team until the end of the year.
Speaking of his new post, Chris said: "I’ve reached the stage in my cycling career where I’m ready to step back from full-time racing and focus my attention on coaching the Men’s Endurance Academy. I’ve achieved a lot during my cycling career and I’m very grateful for the support I've received from so many people in helping me reach my goals."

British Cycling’s Performance Director Dave Brailsford said: "Chris has come to the end of a fantastic racing career and I think he has all the key ingredients that will make him a successful coach. We are in a really good position at the moment that when our established world class athletes approach the end of their racing careers they want to stay with us, and help pass on their knowledge to the younger guys. The likes of Chris and Paul Manning are role models to the new generation of GB cyclists so to be able keep them in our system is fantastic. We’re looking forward to welcoming Chris onto the coaching team."
