British Cycling has today confirmed the eleven riders who will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team at the forthcoming UCI Four-cross World Championships presented by Mercedes Benz in Val di Sole, Italy, taking place from 5th – 6th July.

Explaining the selection for the race, Michael Vickers, four-cross co-ordinator for the Great Britain Cycling Team, said: “I’m excited by the team we have selected to take to Val di Sole this year, we should be in for some good racing and potentially some good results.

“On the men’s side, we have selected Scott Beaumont, one of the world’s most experienced riders, and he will be looking to add another podium result to his palmares.

“Elliott Heap and Grant Hill have both shown an excellent transfer of skills from other disciplines at four-cross this year with some strong national and ProTour results. Hill is a former member of the Great Britain Cycling Team’s BMX Academy Programme and Heap is a downhill mountain biker who competes at world cup level in that discipline, and who also won a round of the under-21 World Enduro Series earlier this year.

“Also selected is Connor Hudson, a rider with raw power and strength, and currently the highest British finisher at a ProTour race this year with a fourth place at Fort William in June 2018.

“We have selected a youthful but talented women’s team, with the oldest rider only 21 years old, and the future for these riders looks promising.

“A strong medal favourite will be Natasha Bradley, who came fourth at the world championships in 2017 and finished in second place at the ProTour in Fort William this year.

“Current national champion Tyde D’souza represents the team at only 18 years-old and will be hoping to build on last year’s finish of sixth place.

“Finally, we have selected Megan Wherry and Josie McFall who have picked up every national win between them this year. Both riders have strong BMX backgrounds and will hopefully be mixing it up over the features of the Val di Sole track. This is a great opportunity for both riders to gain some experience at this level.

“The Val di Sole course is a favourite amongst the riders, and attracts some of the largest crowds seen at four-cross events. The big sweeping loose turns offer plenty of excitement for the fans, with overtaking opportunities in each turn. Midway through the track, the riders will need to negotiate the pro jump straight and catch a perfect downside on each jump to stay ahead of the pack into the final few corners, before heading into the infamous multi line rock garden that has been the decider in some of the previous championships.

“Overall, Great Britain has some exciting prospects in both categories and I think we can expect to see some podium results.”
