The penultimate round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup takes place in Rock Hill, South Carolina from 30 September-1 October.

Olympian Kyle Evans along with Tre Whyte and Bethany Shriever will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Team

Kyle Evans currently sits 10th in the elite men’s ranking after three events in Santiago, Papendal and Manchester.

It was on his home track of Manchester that the 23-year-old recorded the highest placed finish of his career so far; second behind teammate and former world champion Liam Phillips.

Second at the Manchester world cup

Evans currently has 275 points, only five points fewer than two-time Olympic champion Maris Strombergs, and the Wigan-born rider has every chance of boosting his overall score with a strong performance in Rock Hill.

After posting two podium finishes at the European Cup last weekend, Evans is feeling good about his chances: “When I go to world cups I always aim to be in the final and in the final anything can happen,” he said.

“I’d love to get another couple of world cup podiums under my belt; I know I’ve got good form and I feel like I’m in a better position, mentally, than I’ve ever been before.

“The points are so close between the top 10 guys, it only takes two decent results and there’s no reason why I can’t finish on the overall podium.”

Tre Whyte is working his way back to top form and is feeling good ahead of the Carolina meet, following a strong block of training.

“It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster emotionally and physically but while the guys were off at the Olympics I’ve been here putting some good work in and came out of a training block quicker than when I went in,” said Whyte.

“I’m looking forward to competing again,” he added.

British rider leads in supercross

Bethany Shriever will represent Great Britain in her first overseas world cup event following what has been an already very successful 2016 for the youngster.

The 17-year-old topped the women’s podium at the recent British BMX Championships, and won a superb silver medal at May’s UCI BMX World Championships in the junior women’s time trial.

Silver at the world championships

Shriever currently sits in 32nd place in the overall world cup standings, taking 100 points from her debut outing in Manchester, where she finished an impressive ninth.

Venue

Rock Hill South Carolina is the venue for the fourth round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup and will also play host to the 2017 world championships next summer.

The track bears a striking similarity to the Rio course; the second berm on the elite course is separated by a high jump over the smaller inside track, as it was on the Olympic track.
