Great Britain Cycling Team’s Sally Bigham won silver with a tactically astute ride at the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Laissac, France on Sunday.

European champion Bigham was involved in a battle for second with Sabina Enaux but distanced Enaux over nearly four hours of racing as Jolanda Neff from Switzerland won gold.

“I knew the course was quite hard and I needed to hold back early,” said Bigham.

“I’m really happy with the silver medal. To be behind Jolanda in second, I must not be disappointed.

“I felt very good today and I am glad I am back to my normal form.”

World number one Bigham crossed the line two minutes and 33 seconds behind Neff and three minutes ahead of Naux.

In the men’s event, Ben Thomas was 53rd.
