Great Britain Cycling Team athletes Kyle Evans and Tre Whyte will compete at the Indoor Saint Etienne BMX Race on the 14-15 December 2013.

The duo will travel to France for two days of racing at the annual meeting.

British Cycling Olympic BMX Academy Programme coach Marcus Bloomfield believes the competition will provide a good benchmark as the team builds towards the start of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross season in Manchester next April.

“Our training phase at the moment is going towards the world cup in April. This is just a step along the way to see where we are going,” Bloomfield said.

“They have been doing some good stuff in training so it’s a case of ‘let’s package that up and go to a race and see where we are’.

“If any changes need to be made we can make them afterwards but they are both in pretty good shape at the moment.

“If they go out there and just focus on the process like they do every day in training the result side of things will look after itself. They have just got to turn up and deliver what they do every day in training.

“Our Olympic qualification starts in the middle of next year so we want to be at a point where we are hitting the ground running at those races and St Etienne will allow us, as a stepping stone, to do that.”

Evans, 20, has competed in three UCI BMX Supercross meetings in 2013 with his best result coming in Papendal where he reached the semi-finals. He also raced in the UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland, exiting in the moto heats.

Whyte reached the quarter-finals in Manchester before suffering an injury while training in Papendal. The twenty-year-old returned for the final round of the series in Chula Vista, reaching the motos.
