British Cycling Awarded Instructor Training Organisation Status

Important news and member offer for Bikeability instructors

Posted: 8th December 2010

British Cycling has recently been awarded ‘Instructor Training Organisation' status by the Department for Transport and will join 17 other bodies throughout England as an accredited body for the delivery of Bikeability Instructor training.

Instructor Training Organisation (ITO) status recognises the fact the British Cycling has been assessed by the DfT as fit for purpose to deliver instructor training in line with the published National Standards. All ITOs have been through an extensive application process to assess their ability to deliver National Standard instructor training. ITOs' training and management processes will be periodically scrutinised by DfT in the future to ensure maintenance of standards.

Important information and member offer for Bikeability instructors

Bikeability instructors must register with an ITO if they wish to continue to deliver Local Authority or School Sports Partnership training funded by the DfT

Crucially the new ITO system, which recently replaced the Instructor Training Provider (ITP) system, requires that all new and existing Bikeability instructors register with an approved ITO, to enable them to continue to deliver training funded by Local Authorities or School Sports Partnerships.

British Cycling invites all instructors not currently registered with an ITO to register with British Cycling and take advantage of half-price ‘Ride' membership, which includes professional indemnity insurance (provided you hold a valid First Aid certificate), a host of cycling discounts, third-party liability insurance and expert legal advice - essential for anyone riding regularly on the open road. Normally £24 per year, instructors registering with British Cycling can claim Ride membership for just £12 for the first year. This offer is open to new members or those whose British Cycling membership has lapsed for two or more years.

How to register and claim your half-price ‘Ride' membership

• Call the British Cycling Membership on 0161 274 2010
• Ensure you have your unique NSI number to hand (you will find this on your email from the DfT - if don't know your number you can request if from nsi@sdgworld.net
• To claim your half price Ride Membership quote the promo code: ITO

NB: Half-price offer open to new members or those whose membership has lapsed for two or more years. Offer ends 31st December 2010.
