Coventry Devlins Newsagents junior cycle speedway team are in Easter action at Wolverhampton this Sunday, 31st March, in their opening Midland League division two match of the season.

The fast improving city whizz kids put in a strong performance at the pacy Black Country circuit late last year and will be hoping for a repeat performance under new junior team manager Andy Drewett.

Coventry will be led by junior captain James Kirrane (pictured right), Liam McGuire and Daniel Drewett, who gave a starring performance in the senior team last Sunday week, heading the score chart with 17 points.

Coventry squad: Kirrane, McGuire, Drewett, Calum McCarroll, Sammi Marsh, Billy Bloor, Jake Slatter, Shaun Reynolds, Adam Dickinson, Macaulay Burnett, Josh Marsh and Sam Slatter.

Meanwhile, Coventry's Polish ace Konrad Pietak has been delayed by illness and the continuing severe weather in Eastern Europe. He now intends to arrive in Coventry from Poland after Easter ready for the Devlins Newsagents senior Midland League challenge.

After last Sunday's trip to East London fell victim to the weather, Coventry will now visit the capital city for the restaging on Sunday 28th April, at East London's Docklands home venue.

Coventry have also this week confirmed a season long loan agreement with local rivals Bretford Bulldogs for the secondary signing of hot teenage prospect Mason Phillips. The Rugby based starlet will appear for Coventry when parent club Bretford are not racing.

Phillips is delighted with the extra racing. He said: “After three years of racing, I wanted some senior experience and riding for Coventry allows me to do that. Racing with such a top rider as Coventry number one Myke Grimes can only make me a better rider”.

Coventry junior captain James Kirrane has been named by Ireland for the junior Home International at Wolverhampton in June, confirming his rich promise. Kirrane has become the first local junior to claim a first team place at Hearsall Common since the club was revived in May 2011.
