Location: Wednesfield Cycle Speedway, Griffiths Drive, Wednesfield
Event: 14 September 2012

Wednesfield Aces and a team of volunteers raised £2000 for the male cancer awareness and research charity Balls To Cancer supported by HiQ Tyres.

The night started as planned when Scott Lyons of Signal 107 got the proceedings underway. Sixteen of the Midlands’ most inexperienced cycle speedway riders battle it out over 20 heats for the title in an Olympic formula.

The results came down to the wire when Burtie and Andy Probert faced each other in a run off for third position and the bottom step of the podium. Burtie won the toss and gated well from grid 1 held Andy P off for four laps for the win.

In similar style 1st place and the runner up decided by another run off with Chris Wilkinson and Glyn Rowley both on 18 points.

Rowley won the toss and bizarrely opted for grid 3 leaving Wilkinson on 1. The tapes went up, both gates with blistering pace when Wilkinson wipes out on the first bend, Rowley hits Wilkinson and it all ended on the floor. Referee Roger Dainty called for a restart. Wilkinson had the pace to claim to win.

Finally a special thanks to Simon and the team HiQ Tyres, Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton for support and sponsorship of the event.
