Wednesfield Aces v East Park Wolves Challenge Match
Event: 4 March 2012
Location: Ashmore Park, Wednesfield
Sunday 4 March saw a good pre-season workout for the Aces and the Wolves, both teams shaking off the close-season cobwebs.
Aces' Scott Doherty was back in the saddle after a year long ban, with the club also debuting close-season signing Ricki Johnson. The Wolves beefed up their line-up with guest riders Paul Heard of Birmingham and Matt Smith of Sheffield, along with new signing from Sandwell, David Ball. Add those riders to East Park's established riders Jamie Ball, Luke Draisey and Jamie Whetton and the Wolves team turned on a good display. Former Wednesfield and Sandwell ride Paul Bird, back after a two year lay-off, gave East Park a further boost.
The match was very even throughout the first half with the Aces just edging it 46 - 43 at the interval and it continued even up to heat 14 when East Park's Luke Draisey led home a 7-3. Draisey and team partner Jamie Ball levelled the match but then the Aces powered home with four heat wins to win by 12 clear points, and a paid maximum from Mark Griffiths.
