Report: Poole vs. Wednesfield

Event: 21st June 2009

Report: Graham Sutton

After three home reversals, Poole finally notched a home win in the Premier League as their greater strength in depth proved to be the telling factor against old adversaries Wednesfield. The visitors cause was not helped by the absence of several of their young guns who disappointingly failed to make the journey south and the hosts further capitalised on early tapes exclusions to the Aces' top two, Terry Norman and Lee Aris.

With four maximum heat wins in the first six races, Poole had the luxury of an 18 point lead and never looked back. Thomas Reed was in outstanding form, dropping his only point to Lee Aris in heat 12 while Ben Mould was always in the thick of the action and worked hard for his points, finishing with a bonus point in four of his five outings. Former British Champion Pete Young continues to recover his old form with another dependable display while flu-victim Artur Poprawski showed up well from his three reserve races.

Wednesfield relied heavily on their top four with Mark Griffiths collecting 3 race wins in his first match at Harbourside for about 18 years! Terry Norman outpaced Gav Wheeler in heat 11 but the reigning British Champion took revenge over the former title holder four heats later and also took the scalp of his old adversary Lee Aris during a highly entertaining match enjoyed by an appreciative crowd. Special thanks must go to Wayne Aris for agreeing to officiate as referee at short notice.
