British Cycling is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the long serving Astley & Tyldesley Cycling Club President, Bill Phillips, at the age of 79.

Bill had been an Astley & Tyldesley club member since 1995, and served as Club Chairman from 1998 to 2003, and again from 2008 to 2019, before becoming Club President.

In addition, he held official roles at the now defunct Stockport and Garstang clubs, between 1985 and 1994, as well as serving on the Manchester League Committee. Bill also fulfilled the roles of Track Manager and Referee at Astley & Tyldesley.

Our sincerest condolences go to Bill's family and friends, especially to his son Lee, and grandson Adam. Bill's funeral will take place on Friday 6 January at 11.30 am at Preston Crematorium, Longridge Road, Preston PR2 5BY.

In 2011, Bill (right) was presented with a British Cycling Special Volunteers award from former British Cycling President, Brian Cookson in recognition of his work within the cycling community.
