Chris Timms put in an impressive performance only dropping two points from his five heats.

The meeting got underway in the usual competitive manner with riders from East Park having a point to prove after last week’s defeat in the Wolverhampton Inter City Cup and Birmingham still reeling from the fact they were knocked out of the British Team Championships just over a week ago.

Heat 1 saw Chris Jewkes stamp his authority taking four points from Haddock, Millward and Whetton (standing in for S Bentley). Heats 2, 3 and 4 gave no surprises with the maximum points going to the favourites Timms, Smith and Johnson.

Heat 5 provided a major upset with Brandon Whetton holding his own against Sam Parr and Will Cartwright to finish an amazing second place behind team mate Jamie Ball. Heat 11 saw Chris Jewkes retire to the pits after having an uncomfortable coming together with his own bike.

Heat 14 saw M Haddock and N Groves together on the grid, with S Parr and J Whetton behind. Groves has a great gate, but the speed of the Matt Haddock saw an early pass and finished for four points with a five length lead.

Going into the final heats with everything to play for, Matt Haddock and Chris Timms starting at the back in heat 18 after previous wins with Jamie Ball ahead and Luke Draisey on the grid. Timms got away with blistering pace, but the lead of Draisey was just that little too much. Ball and Haddock battled it out for the lower places when the superior strength of the youngster Matt Haddock was just too much for Ball and saw him eating dirt and retiring to the pits.

The top scorers after the 20 heats found three riders needing to fight it out for two lower steps of the podium.

Chris Jewkes, Matt Smith and Scott Millward did battle for the last time. Two laps of three riders competing shoulder to shoulder when something had to give. Jewkes tangled with Smith, Jewkes hit the deck pushing Smith wide and releasing Millward for a comfortable victory and securing the runner up trophy.
