About our club

Welcome to Chatteris Cycling Club (CCC).

The club represents the town, and its surrounding areas, and wants to attract anyone that enjoys cycling young and old, or who is looking at getting started. We feel that the introduction of a cycling club to the community would give individuals another sporting option to an all ready vibrant sporting town whether that individual was interested in leisure riding, training for his/her first challenge/charity ride, endurance sportive or even to get in to racing. We have given the club a five year plan to properly establish itself which has seen the first year (2016) affiliate to British Cycling. By year three (2019) there will be British Cycling Coaches to help anyone that requires group or one-to-one coaching sessions. The club hopes to run its own flagship event like a competitive race or Sportive by year five (2021).

The club meets every Sunday at the Sportsman, Chatteris (PE16 6ST) for one of the following group rides:

Beginner Group - Meets at 8.30am to complete a 10-30 mile route that suits the abilities of those that attend. The pace will be dictated by the slowest rider and everyone will stay together to aid encouragement. Basic coaching and bike fitting will be given during these rides.

Intermediate Group - Meets at 8.30am to complete a 30-50 mile route that suits the abilities of those that attend. The pace will be dictated by the slowest rider and everyone will stay together to aid encouragement. Individual rider coaching and development will be introduced during these rides.

Advanced Group - Meets at 8.30am to complete a 50-80 mile route that suits the abilities of those that attend. The pace will be dictated by the slowest rider and everyone will stay together to aid encouragement. Advanced rider coaching and development will be introduced during these rides as well as increasing rider pace and stamina whilst on the bike.

The clubs Woman's Only Group Road Rides meet every last Sunday of the month at The Sportsman, Chatteris (PE16 6ST) for 9.30am.

The club is seeing more and more ladies attending these rides and it would be great to attract more. The ladies group are a fantastic bunch and enjoy their rides out together. The fitness gains from road cycling can be very rewarding not to mention the social aspect of riding with like minded people in the same ride environment. All of the ladies that have attended so far have commented on how enjoyable these rides are. This is something British Cycling are trying to promote and we are happy that we have a great bunch of ladies within CCC.

These CCC club rides are open to all cycling communities and are fee to attend however it is advised that road/hybrid bikes are the most suited bike to use whilst on the road. Free car parking is also available at the Sportsman.

(All details can be found on the website and social media apps below).

About the founder: "I plan to help the club, and its members, initially by getting the club off the ground, but in the long run by becoming a fully qualified British Cycling Coach. In November 2015 I started this journey by attending my Wattbike Advanced Instructors Course to learn and understand the advantages of introducing power to amateur athletes. I am already a Spinning Instructor as well as a very keen road cyclist and have represented the British Army's Development Race Team in Critirium and Road racing. I am very enthusiastic and passionate about the sport and want CCC to succeed in everything cycling related".

We don’t just want to attract road cyclists to the club and also run CX/MTB trips over to use the trails/runs in Thetford Forrest. We want to introduce “Coaching Kids In To Cycling” sessions and also want to start a Vets Leisure Ride for the older gentlemen/lady of the club who want to do half the distance at half the pace. We have a few more ideas, and like the ones mentioned, there is a lot to ensure is in place before we add them, especially the “Coaching Kids In To Cycling” sessions.

The clubs social media pages are open to all cyclists, new and old, from Chatteris and the surrounding areas and we urge people to join them to find out more and what plans we have for the future. With your help we can make a positive impact on how the club moves forward and potentially add weight to any plans to finally secure proper cycle path routes around the Fens.
