About our club
Altrincham Velo is a friendly and easy-going club of cycling enthusiasts where the focus is on the enjoyment of cycling, as opposed to smashing out the miles on every ride. We operate a ‘no-drop’ policy and will always wait for people at the top of climbs and long downhill sections. There is a real mix of abilities within the club and members share advice freely and support each other on all things cycling, including bike handling skills and bike maintenance.
We used to be known as SunSport Cycling Club to reflect our affiliation with a cycle coaching business but changed the name to Altrincham Velo in July 2020 to more closely align ourselves with the town of Altrincham where we meet up and where most of us live.
The benefits of Joining Altrincham Velo are:
- You’ll belong to a local club affiliated to British Cycling.
- You’ll participate in group rides led by ride leaders who know the roads and terrain.
- You’ll join our members Facebook group and WhatsApp group where our ride and event details appear.
- You’ll have access to many years of cycling experience and knowledge from our members.
Many of our members are involved in other types of cycling outside of road riding, such as track, mountain biking, cyclo-cross and triathlon, so if you are interested there will be someone who can introduce you to these sports as well
Who is it for?
Altrincham Velo is a small and personable cycling club made up of men and women from all walks of life who simply enjoy riding bikes for a whole host of reasons – to get fit; to become a better rider; to enjoy the camaraderie of others in a group ride; to discover the delights of riding in the countryside and trying out the many cafes and tea rooms along the way; or a combination of all of these.
