About our club
Welcome to the Nova Raiders Cycling Club in Newport, Shropshire.
In September 2009, twelve friends completed the gruelling 450 mile Pyrenean Raid Cycle Challenge and early the following year the Nova Raiders Cycling Club was formed.
Nova Raiders have come a long way in a short period of time and in May 2012 we organised the first of our annual “Route 66 Sportive” which attracted over 300 cyclists and raised £4,500 towards Newport RUFC’s new clubhouse. This has gone from strength to strength and to date, Nova Raiders has raised over £60,000 for local and national charities.
Nova Raiders has grown rapidly and now has over 200 members. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, social club that welcomes all ages and abilities.
Every Saturday we have cycle rides of about 25 - 30 miles suitable for all club members. There are usually two rides, one of these is a steadier ride which is great for anyone new to group cycling, recovering from injury or just wanting a gentle turn of the legs between racing. Experienced Raiders are on hand to give advice and assistance if required.
Sunday there is a longer 45-60 mile club run with a café stop at around the halfway point.
Club rides start in The Square outside Nova Cycles in Newport.
In the lighter spring/summer months, Nova Raiders also have club runs of a faster pace starting at 6pm. These are typically 25-30 miles in distance. A smaller group continue these rides through the winter months when good bike lights are essential.
And if that's not enough to choose from, then a number of club members also organise additional weekday and weekend rides on an ad-hoc basis, via our members email list.
There's never an excuse not to ride with Nova Raiders!
