About our club
The Barrow Central Wheelers was formed in 1933 when two of the clubs of that era combined. The club gets its name from the Barrow Central railway station, where the first club runs started.
Over the years, the club has participated in various forms of cycling and cycle racing, with some of its members representing Great Britain at the highest level.
Predominantly a time trialling club, it promotes two open events and 22 club events each year, along with a series of hill climbs towards the end of the season.
The club boasts a strong road biking contingent, with a dedicated road bike racing element, and also promotes touring/Audax. This aspect of the club is active most weekends, with various club runs throughout the week and weekend, coordinated via our Facebook group.
While still holding time trialling at the core of its principles, the club has begun to incorporate more diverse cycling events, such as cyclo-cross. The club hosts an event on behalf of the North West Cyclo-Cross Association, attracting large crowds and participants from the North West and beyond.
Additionally, the club organizes at least one major continental tour each year, typically to Majorca, before holding the annual prize-giving dinner in November to conclude the season.
