About our club

Islington Cycling Club is a friendly local club offering cycle sport for all. We formed in 2013. We offer a wide range of rides, including nine weekly club rides, training rides and several club and open events. Islington Cycling Club is affiliated to British Cycling and is a Go-Ride club, so we offer coaching for young people, 8-15 years old. Youth members benefit from a racing programme and coaching from a team of experts. The club has an active women’s group with a weekly social ride on a Tuesday morning, a monthly women’s ride and coaching sessions throughout the year.

Riding with a cycling club can seem daunting at first, so we require all new and prospective members to attend one of our introductory rides or group riding skills sessions before they become a full member. These are short club rides in which we look at things like what to carry with you, how to ride in group formations and what are those hand signals? You can book on to these in the Clipping in section of our club forum: http://forum.islington.cc

Our regular club rides are fun and friendly and we have a nobody-gets-left-behind policy, regrouping at all hills and turn points. Helmets are mandatory on club rides. No helmet, no ride.

Here's the full programme of what to expect once you're a member:

Saturday mornings
Meet at 7am (fast) 8am (social pace) outside the zoo entrance on the Outer Circle, Regent's Park for a 60-minute training session. Coffee afterwards. Note: if you are not used to riding in close formation, please attend one of our group riding skills workshops or introductory rides first.

Sunday mornings
We meet at Highbury Fields, along Queen's Walk, perpendicular to Highbury Place, N5 1AR, for an 8.30am depart. We split into four groups, Green, Silver, Blue, and Black. Black is the fastest, then Blue, then Silver, then Green.

Tuesday Mornings
Meet at 6.15am during the summer or 6.30am in winter for training laps outside the zoo entrance on the Outer Circle, Regent's Park for a 60-minute session. Coffee afterwards.
