Women's Sport Week: meet some of the women driving cycling forward

Throughout this Women's Sport Week, we will be taking to social media to thank some of the women who work tirelessly at all levels of our sport to ensure that cycling continues to thrive. Here are their stories:

Danielle Riley

Danielle Riley has inspired hundreds of women to get into cycling as a Breeze Champion, Bikeability instructor and level two coach.

A lifelong cyclist, Danielle competed for many years before becoming a Ride Leader. This was a role she approached with huge determination and enthusiasm, and has since inspired hundreds of women to get into cycling as a Breeze Champion, Bikeability instructor and level two coach.

Danielle is currently taking part in British Cycling’s Ignite Your Coaching pilot scheme, and hopes to become a mentor to another coach next year. Find out more details on Ignite Your Coaching, and information on how to get into coaching yourself.

Pippa Leith

Pippa Leith is the key organiser of weekly events both on the track and the closed-road circuit at London’s Lee Valley Velopark.

Pippa is the key organiser of weekly events both on the track and the closed-road circuit at London’s Lee Valley Velopark. Her drive and enthusiasm played a major part in ensuring that meaningful and structured regular cycling competition for club and other local riders was established.

Pippa is also a volunteer of major standing, having been on the organising teams of many domestic and international events, at which she has performed a considerable array of roles.

Heather Bamforth

Heather Bamforth is a key driver for the accommodation of novice and lower ability women in road events and competitions in the north west.

Her determination to see these women catered for has seen her make a huge success of this project, and the model is one which organisers throughout the country now follow.

Liz Dodson

Liz Dodson has acted as a regional track and road commissaire in both Britain and New Zealand. Since returning to this country, she has been invaluable in establishing the Derby Arena track league.

Since returning to this country, she has been invaluable in establishing the Derby Arena track league, and has acted as a key member of the commissaire team, as volunteer co-ordinator and a committee member. Liz has also taken on the task of setting up a youth track league at the venue.

Rebecca Maynard

Rebecca Maynard, of Laura Trott’s former club, Welwyn Wheelers, is a key member of British Cycling’s National Youth Forum, which allows young people to shape the future of the sport.

Rebecca is also a committed volunteer within the sport, having previously worked at a UCI Track Cycling World Cup event in London and at the School Games as team attache.

Rachael Crewesmith

Rachael Crewesmith is one of the first three female participants to gain their Level 3 Mountain Bike Leadership Award.

The award is aimed at experienced, qualified leaders who are ready to take the next step and increase their ability to create inspiring and long-lasting experiences. Vicky Loftus

Vicky Loftus performs an array of roles within the sport.

Vicky performs an array of roles within the sport. After initially attending cyclo-cross races as a spectator, Vicky decided to get involved, and became part of the lap recording team. She then attended a commissaire course and trained up to support the officiating team, and has since been a great resource for the Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League, officiating at a significant number of events. In addition, Vicky is also a Breeze ride leader, a coach and a mountain bike leader.

Kathy England

Kathy’s enthusiasm to get involved in many areas of cycling is infectious. She is heavily involved in promoting women’s cycling, is a Breeze Champion and helps to run women-only sessions at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
