Round five of the 2016 British Cycling Women’s Road Series takes place on Saturday 11-Sunday 12 June at the Essex Giro Two-Day.

A time trial and criterium double on Sunday follow Saturday’s road race to make up three stages of action.

Nicola Juniper has built a commanding lead after her second victory of the series at the North Bucks Festival of Cycling last Sunday.

How the series works

British Cycling Women's Road Series standings after round four

Riders compete over eight rounds and receive points based on their finishing position at each race. The rider with the most points at the end of the campaign is crowned British Cycling Women’s Road Series champion. Nicola Juniper is the defending champion and is targeting a third successive title.

Team Ford Ecoboost’s Nicola Juniper has marched into a commanding lead thanks to a second win of the series at the North Bucks Grand Prix last Sunday.

British circuit race champion Juniper, winner of the series in 2014 and 2015, was the overall winner at the two-day Alexandra Tour of the Reservoir, and now has a 59-point cushion to Drops Cycling Development Team’s Eleanor Dickinson in second place after her performance in Buckinghamshire.

Podium Ambition Pro Cycling’s Grace Garner won the sprint finish on stage one of the Tour of the Reservoir and took victory in Tuesday’s Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix round in Croydon.

Kimberley Ashton soloed to victory at the opening round of the British Cycling Women’s Road Series, the Manx International Grand Prix.

Sixth at the Lincoln Grand Prix highlighted the Casp Racing cyclist’s talent and she can climb from joint-eighth overall with a number of the top ten absent.

The courses

Stage one - road race

Saturday’s 100-kilometre-plus road race starts at 1pm on a rolling but picturesque course on the Essex/Suffolk border.

Stage two - time trial

Sunday morning sees riders take on a three laps at the Redbridge Cycling Centre for a total of six kilometres.

Stage three - criterium

A criterium of one hour plus five laps, also held at Redbridge Cycling Centre, will decide the general classification on Sunday afternoon.
