Mountain View Ranch, Caerphilly is the setting for the series opener of the 2014 Welsh Mountain Bike Series. Round one takes place on Sunday 9 March and is promoted by local cycling club, Maindy Flyers.
Online entry closes Saturday 1 March, but you can enter on the day for all categories. No British Cycling membership or racing licence is required.
Maindy Flyers, the hosts for round one, are also promoting a Go MTB series at nearby Castell Coch through the spring and into summer. Organisers Julian Beere and Paul Graham have teamed up with the owners of the Mountain View Ranch to kick off the series amidst the beautiful scenery south of Caerphilly Mountain.
Despite the rain club members have been hard at work clearing vegetation, digging tracks and barrowing hardcore. Racing will be on a mix of old golf course with bunkers, firm tracks and technical single track through steep valley woodland. Yes it is wet, where is not this winter, and muddy in places, but every effort is being made to ensure the course is rideable.
The experienced and well-equipped Strata Medical team will be on hand for any First Aid needs and there will be lively and informed commentary and a first class results service from Jay and Maddie Horton of Fully Sussed Events.
And other activities for children of all ages are on offer at the venue, with a canteen and coffee shop, serving freshly made food, at which to refuel. For further information go to the Mountain View Ranch website.
