As we build up to the 2011 National Track Championships, we are looking back at the outstanding 2010 championships which produced some of the best national title races ever seen at this historic venue. This is what happened on Day 1:

Day 1 of the 2010 National Track Championships served up a great feast of action and big names, with a hint of the unexpected to keep everyone on their toes.

Highlights included the Sky Track Cycling Team scorching to victory in the Team Sprint (pictured above) though it was not their impressive final ride which actually attracted most attention. No, it was their semi-final where they caught their NW rivals well inside three laps that really got the spectators buzzing. With all four of their sprint stars riding - Chris Hoy, Matt Crampton, Jason Kenny and Ross Edgar - it was a thrilling start to the week's racing.

Other highlights included Victoria Pendleton keeping young guns Becki James and Jess Varnish at bay in the 500m Time Trial, whilst Hannah Walker and Hannah Barnes took the Madison title after a tough battle with Dani King and Ella Hopkins.
