Once again Elite Cycle Racing returns to the roads of North Yorkshire on the 5th June with the Ryedale Grand Premier Calendar Road Race. 112 miles lies in store for the top UK based riders covering two rolling circuits that feature Hovingham as their hub. The start and finish is once again Helmsley's magnificent Duncombe Park playing host to the Grand Prix as well as a range of cycling events throughout the day.

The Ryedale Grand Prix was first held in 2005 when it was also run as the National Road Race Championships a feature that was repeated in 2008. The event is also held as a Memorial to Peter Longbottom the former Olympian from Malton who was tragically killed in 1998.

The Ryedale Grand Prix is the longest of the Premier Calendar Races and is the ideal guide to form for the National Championships that this year take place in Newcastle on the 26th June. Each edition of the Grand Prix has featured all out action from the start and is an event ideally suited to the likes of the Swede; Magnus Backstedt the former winner of the infamous Paris Roubaix, the cobbled "Hell of the North" Classic in Northern France. After a couple of years away from the continent Magnus is returning to action as a UK based rider.

Another overseas rider to watch is the young Australian Zak Dempster, now in his second season with the Rapha Condor Sharp and a prolific winner in the early part of the season. Returning to the event will be last year's winner Welshman Rob Partridge, who will be hoping to repeat last year's storming ride. Returning too will be Wakefield based sponsors Grass Concrete Limited, developers of the Grasscrete paving system, they have supported the event since 2005.

Many an ambition has been lost on the kilometre long drag up to the finish in Duncombe Park, that never fails to provide a worthy winner or a late twist. It has broken a few hearts too with Yorkshireman Kevin Dawson's hopes crumbling when his breakaway was caught at the entrance to the park a few years ago. He returns this year as does his Pontefract based Sportscover Team. York based riders are once again represented by breakaway specialist James Sharp of the York Cycle Works Team and Alastair Kay who for this year has shifted his allegiance from the Cycle Works to Cumbrian based Herbalife.
