Totnes-Vire 2-Day Stage Race

30 April 2011 | Promoted By: Mid Devon CCEvent Lisiting &Results
Report: Jake Durrant

The first stage was a 5 mile time trial around Spreyton finished up a long hill. Doug Dewey finishing top in 9.15mins.

The second stage proved to be decisive, The course took in North Tawton, Sticklpath and the outskirts of Okehampton and Spreyton, 62 miles & 4 laps of a tough route, seeing all weather conditions throughout the race. MDCC 's Mark Dolan crashed early on forcing him to retire, the bad luck continued with fellow team mate Andy Parker suffering a puncture.

A move going over the steepest hill took last year's winner Yanto Barker (le col.pendragon.colnago) and local riders Jake Durant which looked like it would stick, until Will Bjergfelt dragged the whole bunch back. On the third lap a break went away which managed to stay clear on the bunch. Only 41 out of 80 finished the day, proving just how hard the event was with 7 national level race teams present.

The third stage on Sunday returned to the Rockbeare circuit, 4laps of Aylesbeare village 12 mile circuit and 2.5 circuits of a smaller circuit through Rockbeare. The significant move went on the third lap and soon developed a lead with a calmed bunch. The 6 riders gained 2mins 10seconds with a lap to go on the shorter finishing circuit, but a hard last lap saw the gap close to just 10seconds at the finishing line with James McLaughlin (Pendragon Le Col Colnago) claiming the win.
