2009 Premier Calendar Road Race Series

A British Cycling Road Race Series

The British Cycling Premier Calendar Road Race Series comprises of a series of road race events around Britain where the best Elite men in the country race over distances up to 120 miles. Each rider doesn't only have to battle with their rivals but also the tough countryside and whatever the weather may throw at them over a race that can last more than four hours.

Tour of Blackpool 2009
20 year old Lancashire rider Matt Cronshaw (Rapha Condor) had the biggest home win of his short career at the Tour of Blackpool, the final event of a weekend of top racing in the NW tourist resort. With a superb lead out from team mate Liam Holohan, Cronshaw outsprinted Rob Partridge (Halfords) and Yanto Barker (LeCol-Colnago) on the South Shore Promenade at Blackpool.

Beaumont Trophy Road Race 2009
On a brilliant day for bike racing in the North East on Sunday, June14, Bradley Wiggins (Garmin) came to the Premier Calendar event in an effort to get in some pre-Tour de France racing and race in style he certainly did, winning the race by over a minute. We have a report and lots of photos of the action.

2009 Ryedale GP
Russell Downing (CandiTV-Marshalls Pasta) rounded off a great weekend with a perfectly timed attack in the final 3km of the Ryedale Grand Prix to beat Ian Wilkinson (Halfords Bikehut) and Kevin Dawson (Sportscover) on the line at Duncombe Park, North Yorkshire. Report and lots of photos!

Report: Downing Wins Lincoln GP
Russell Downing has won the Lincoln GP for the third time. Blessed with great weather, the race all riders want to win came down to a battle between three riders over the final lap and Russell Downing saw off the challenge of Ian Wilkinson and Chris Newton on the cobbles of Michaelgate in front of a huge crowd that lined the long climb two or three deep.

Chas Messenger Road Race
The Plowman Craven/Madison Chas Messenger road race was won today by Russell Downing in a four up sprint. The race started with 90 riders and whilst it took a long time for the splits to happen, the final few laps certainly saw lots of action ending with the sprint in Dorton.

40th Girvan 3 Day Cycle Race 2009
Marcin Bialoblocki (Sport Beans Wilier) is the 2009 winner of the Girvan 3 Day. The final stage over 72 gruelling miles saw the race split asunder with the yellow jersey missing the vital break. From this break, Ian Wilkinson and Russell Downing clipped off to contest the stage win with Downing getting the verdict whilst Bialoblocki did enough to secure his biggest win to date . Tennant Wins Tour of Reservoir 2009
Team Halfords Bikehut dominated the podium at the end of the 2009 Tour of the Reservoir. Andy Tennant attacked from a large breakaway group on the final lap together with Dale Appleby. These two forged a lead of about 30 seconds until Appleby punctured, leaving Tennant to go it alone all the way to the finish.
