This years championships will take place on the 18th June in the Forest of Dean in a bid to boost the growing number of mountain bikers in this part of region whilst offering an additional event and venue for our riders to come and explore.

The championship races will sit alongside the existing round of the Welsh Cross country series and therefore offer the opportunity to experience taking part in the Welsh series and the different elements on offer such as the newly organised MTB XC Skills challenge competition for U12 riders as shown in the video.

“The Southern XC series is doing fantastically well in providing mountain bikers in the region a very successful series that continues to grow and attract riders from outside our region, for this year we have seen a big increase in the number of entry level events taking place in the North of the region and wanted to provide these new riders the opportunity to compete at the championships on their doorstep" - Len Hay, South region Chairman

"We partnered up with Welsh Cycling following a great collaboration put in place for last years series that saw a good number of South region riders ride in the Forest of Dean round that took place, were keen to continue to work closely to support the growing number of riders in this part of the world and felt that hosting the championships within the series would be the perfect way to provide even more incentive to the local scene.” – Dan Coast, Cycle Sport developer for the South region.

The Forest of Dean offers a real advantage to technical riders as the event is mostly single-tracked with few opportunities to overtake and some technical descending. It promises to be a really exciting course within the grounds of the very popular Pedalabikeaway centre which has hosted a number of great youth races at the start of the year.

Regional titles will be contested for Men and Women in line with British Cycling regulations., To be eligible you must enter in advance and have British Cycling South region listed as your location on your membership. Entry on the day for the race will not be accepted for the championship due to the pre-event set up of transponders.

Entries close just before midnight on the 14th June so don’t miss out on this great day of racing.
