The Regional Senior Road Race Championships will take place over three weekends in 2023 with separate events for the Men’s and Women’s fields. The South Region will once again separate the championships over three weekends in order to provide a better experience for riders on courses more suited to the riders needs.

The Men’s race will take place on the Malmsbury circuit just West of Swindon on the 11th of June for E,1,2,3 riders and is being promoted by Swindon Wheelers who this year celebrate their centenary. This years event will also incorporate the South West regions championships for senior men Juniors from our neighbouring region.

The relatively flat route takes place on a 20mile circuit with 200m’s of elevation per lap should provide the classic Breakaway V pack scenario as we look to find the regions best riders.

The day will also be supported with a shorter 3/4 category race for riders who don’t quite fancy taking on the Elite riders, both races are open to riders from any region but priority will be given to South & South West riders.

The Women’s race will also incorporate the Junior title and once again take place on the Stowey Circuit, located on the Mendip Hills and promoted by Bath CC. Last years event has grown even more with not only the return of the South West regions championship but that too of the Welsh Championship for Women. The race gets underway on the 13th August on what is a relatively quiet weekend in the Women’s calendar it’s likely to pull in a full field of 80 riders for the race though again priority being given to Riders eligible for one of the three regional championships.

The Women’s Race will tackle the 6mile lap 8 times which features a 1km climb peaking out at 11.3% the course is very different to that of the men’s championship course.

British Cycling South Region Cycle Sport Developer, Dan Coast – “It’s great to welcome riders from Wales and the  South West to the South region, as we look to grow and develop women’s racing further in the UK from the recent challenges facing the sport. A Tri-regional championship presents all of our regions riders with the opportunity to race in a larger field of riders to really showcase women’s racing in what we hope will be one of the biggest fields for regional road championships in the UK. Bath CC put on a great event last year and we are more than happy to support them in a number of initiatives to make racing more accessible for women, Juniors & U23’s.”

The Junior Mens Championships will take place on the 10th of June as part of the Portsmouth North End CC Summer Road race on the populair Owslebury course near Winchester over 60 miles of a 7 lap course.

Race entries are now open for both dates this summer, click the links to find out more and enter.
