Applications for the 2020/21 Welsh Cycling academy programme now open

Welsh Cycling are inviting expressions of interest for the 2020/2021 Academy Programme. The Programme will support the individual development of both male and female senior riders in the disciplines of road, track and mountain bike cross country. The aim being for these riders to progress to a British Cycling Programme or professional team or to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

We are looking for riders who have been competing and are competitive nationally and/or internationally in Road, Track or Mountain Bike XCO disciplines. They must have a strong work ethic, grit, determination and a passion to progress and succeed. The athlete must be willing and able to work within a group.

Riders selected to the programme will be provided with education and support to develop physically, tactically and technically as well as to learn the fundamental off-bike skills required to become a successful senior rider.

They will receive coaching support and an individual training and racing programme. In addition, programme riders will receive education from Sport Wales Institute staff in the relevant aspects of sports science to support their development off the bike.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 5.00pm on Friday 30 October 2020.

The expressions of interest will be reviewed by Wales Cycling Team’s selection panel. Following this review virtual individual interviews will be set up with shortlisted riders.

These interviews will take place during the week commencing 9 November 2020.

Eligibility

Applications are invited from riders who are eligible to represent Wales through at least one of the following criteria:

  • Born in Wales;
  • Parent born in Wales;
  • Lived continuously in Wales for a minimum period of three years.
