Leading bike share firm nextbike has announced its collaboration with a national sporting body in a bid to encourage more cycling than ever before on Cardiff’s streets.
nextbike will be working in partnership with Welsh Cycling to offer participants exciting opportunities to use even more pedal power to get around in Cardiff.
As part of the venture ‘Let’s Ride’ pop-up participants will be able to access 200 two-hour free cycling codes to be used on nextbikes throughout the city. There will also be social media competitions for annual nextbike memberships posted throughout the year.
The nextbike scheme, which celebrated its first anniversary in the city in May this year, has already partnered with the NHS to deliver ‘nextbike on prescription’ for several medical practices across Cardiff.
nextbike MD Krysia Solheim said the partnership was a great way of encouraging cycling to a wider audience.
“We are pleased to be able to collaborate with Welsh Cycling and bring bike share to a new audience who may already reap the benefits of cycling but have never thought about using the scheme before to stay on their bikes even when they don’t have their own with them. We hope that this partnership is another step towards changing how we move through our cities for the better.”
Georgina Harper, National Development Manager at Welsh Cycling said:
“We’re thrilled to launch this collaboration with nextbike in Cardiff to enable those people without access to a bike to participate in our free led ride programme and the opportunity to use the scheme to explore the area, or even to commute into the city.”
nextbike’s Cardiff scheme has been nextbike’s most successful UK launch since it began operations in the UK in 2014.
Backed by both Cardiff Council and Cardiff University and financially supported by the Welsh Government, nextbikes were introduced to reduce congestion, free up parking spaces and to provide a healthier way to travel around the city.
The next ‘Let’s Ride’ pop up event will be on July 7, this Sunday at Llandaff Fields and codes can be used to access other ‘Let’s Ride’ programmes.
