Welsh Cycling would like to invite you to celebrate the outstanding achievements of cycling in Wales, 2019. 

The evening will honour the wonderful volunteers, clubs, social cycling groups and all the athletes who have represented Wales throughout 2019.

Anne Adams-King, CEO of Welsh Cycling added: "We would encourage everyone to join us in our celebrations; the evening is a fantastic chance to reward and recognise the individuals who make cycling possible across the country and make my job worth doing. I hope you can join us and I look forward to seeing you there.

The dinner will take place on Saturday 12th October 2019.

Location: SWALEC Cricket Stadium, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

2019 Award Categories

We have some exciting amendments to the Award categories of 2019.

Event Volunteer of the Year- This award will recognise the work of those who devote their time to making sure cycling events run successfully across Wales. You can nominate individuals who carry out roles such as; Commissarie; Race Organiser, Marshalls (Of Road, Static & CSAS).

Club Volunteer of the Year- This award will recognise volunteers who support their club each week but carrying out the behind the scenes work that often goes unseen, but it key to a successful club. For example; Committee members; Club admin; Tea & coffee makers etc.   

Recreational Cycling Award- This award will recognise HSBC UK Let’s Ride volunteers who lead recreational rides; supporting beginners to intermediate cyclists, families, and/or women only cyclists. For example; Ride Social leaders, Breeze ride leaders, Guided ride leaders.

Inspiring Young Person- This award will recognise an individual under the age of 18 who has given back to cycling in Wales. The young individual will be a role model to other young people and have inspired others to get involved in the sport; this could be through volunteering or cycling. We look forward to reading about the inspirational young people involved in cycling in Wales.

Club of the Year- This award will recognise the work of affiliated clubs in Wales. They are based within their local communities and provide opportunities for everyone to be involved in cycling.

Coach of the Year- This award will recognise the outstanding contribution of a coach who has helped develop cyclists. They will be a member of a Welsh Cycling affiliated club, and help to develop riders of varying abilities to achieve their own personal goals.

Colin Thornton Junior Performance of the Year- The Colin Thornton Award for Junior Performance will recognise the achievements of a Welsh rider competing in the junior age category. They will have shown commitment, progression and success in their cycling career so far, and show great promise for the future.

Elite Performance of the Year- This award will recognise an elite Welsh cyclist who, as part of a team or as an individual, has continued to achieve on the international stage throughout the year. Nominees must be over 18 years of age.

(Please note: this award is not part of the nomination form. It will be decided in the same way as SPOTY. 5 athletes will be selected based on their achievements throughout the year; the winner will be decided by a LIVE vote a week prior to the Awards Dinner).

Lifetime Contribution to Cycling in Wales- The Lifetime Contribution to Cycling in Wales award will be awarded to an individual who has made a long term commitment to cycling in Wales as a volunteer, coach, cyclist or as a valued contributor to cycle sport in Wales.
