Would you like to start a social cycling group in Wales?

As the national governing body for the sport within Wales, Welsh Cycling are working alongside British Cycling and HSBC UK to provide more people in Wales with the opportunity to cycle. Our aim is to significantly increase the level of participation within the sport at a recreational level.

The recent increase in ‘Social Cycling’ groups across Wales has helped to provide thousands of accessible opportunities for the nation to improve their health by joining with other like-minded people to ride their bikes.

In order to help create more opportunities for the nation to cycle, Welsh Cycling is looking to upskill and train a number of committed cyclists to feel confident in providing recreational cycling opportunities for members of the public across the country, motivated people who are keen to inspire others to get active and out on their bikes.

We are looking for riders to create and host regular rides using the HSBC UK Ride Social platform, a website designed to help people to meet up and cycle together socially. Ride creators would be crucial in creating and hosting cycling opportunities for their communities and helping others to improve their health and wellbeing through cycling.

Social Cycling group creators often build a community around their rides, taking pictures and telling the stories of their riders through social media and to local press, in turn, inspiring more and more people to join them on their rides. Some group creators may choose to write blog posts for Welsh Cycling, describing their experiences of meeting other like-minded people and to provide general advice to others regarding getting into cycling in Wales.

In return for your commitment to cycling, Welsh Cycling will provide workshops, e-learning modules and continued personal support to help you grow your social cycling group. There are also often opportunities to attend British Cycling - Ride Leadership training courses to become qualified ride leaders.

If you are interested in inspiring a nation to cycle and being trained to act as an ambassador for social cycling in Wales we would like to hear from you.
