The time has come for the nation to decide who will be crowned BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year 2016.

Welsh cyclists Owain Doull and Elinor Barker have both made the shortlist of eight athletes, with voting now open.

How to Vote

The winner will be decided via a public vote, which will open at 08:00 GMT on Monday 28 November and will close at 18:00 GMT on Saturday 3 December 2016. Details on how to vote can be found here along with full terms and conditions.

The event will take place at BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff with the programme available to watch live on the BBC Wales Sport website, BBC Red button and on BBC iPlayer (UK only) and BBC Radio Wales from 19:30 GMT on Monday 5 December.

There will also be updates on BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Wales Today and Newyddion on S4C.

The nominees are athlete Hollie Arnold, footballer Gareth Bale, cyclist Elinor Barker, athlete Aled Sion Davies, cyclist Owain Doull, taekwondo's Jade Jones, sailor Hannah Mills and boxer Lee Selby.

Ex-GB athlete and Wales rugby winger Nigel Walker chaired the judging panel.

At 21 years old, Elinor Barker was the youngest member of the Team GB Cycling squad to compete in Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Barker, alongside Laura Kenny, Katie Archibald and Joanna Rowsell Shand broke the team pursuit world record three times on their way to Olympic gold.

Elinor has since had strong individual results, taking gold in the World Cup Points race in November.

Owain Doull started the gold medal rush in Rio, bringing home Wales’ first gold medal of the Games. He joined Sir Bradley Wiggins, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke to break the world record twice before clinching Olympic victory.

Since Rio, Owain has signed with Team Sky ready for the 2017 season on the road.

Voting opened at 08:00 GMT on Monday, 28 November 2016 and will close on 18:00 GMT on Saturday 3 December.

The annual awards evening, in its fourth year, is a collaboration between BBC Cymru Wales and governing body to celebrate the very best elite and grassroots sport in the country.
