Leicester Women's Velo cycling club was formed after a small number of Breeze champions got together to discuss the next steps – what do you do after you've got the cycling bug from Breeze, and you want to go out on longer rides?

Formed in 2014, the membership grew from the many women they met through Breeze rides who wanted to cycle further.

It's a supportive and friendly club which offers a number of ways to participate. Members can join regular club rides, typically of 15 miles or more and usually involving a cafe stop, social nights or trips to major cycling events. Leicester Women’s Velo also had their own RideLondon team earlier this year.

There are over just under 50 members riding regularly throughout the year. The club has achieved a lot in a small space of time – including British Cycling affiliation, a national award for one of the club members in the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards, an appearance on Sky Sports and a feature in Cycling Weekly. The club have also been one of the official partners of the Leicester Castle Classic for the last two years – with members volunteering to support the public sportive and the Elite race.

One of the recent rides included a stop at Cafe Ventoux in Tugby, as the name suggests, a cafe with cyclists in mind.

Rides will continue throughout the winter, including a joint Breeze - Leicester Women's Velo 'Mince Pie Ride' in early December. Have we mentioned cafés and food enough?
